New Orleans - do we need a car?

Hoping to spend 3 or 4 days in New Orleans in mid to late September. Staying somewhere central. Looking at possible hotels and most seem to charge up to $40 per night for parking . Do we need a car or could we pick one up as we leave?

I would say no. We got around fine on foot in September, there are the streetcars on the main streets and we used Uber to get along from Magazine Street and from the riverfront to the French Quarter.

We are back there in two weeks for for 4 days and no car booked.

Enjoy, it's a wonderful place

as above, we were there 2 weeks ago and either walked around, used the street cars (jazzy pass is $9 for 3 days) or get a 3 day hop on hop off bus ticket to get to places of interest. We then hired a car from the Hilton Riverside and drove to Memphis

No definitely not. All parking we saw was very expensive. You can walk, catch a street car or bus, or hire a bike (can recommend a great place that we have used twice) to get you around easily!
