Thank you to everyone for the interesting ideas.

Thanks Mr T for your suggestion. This sent me on an Amazon quest today and this is what I bought:-

So if it only lasts a couple of years we will have had good use out of it.

Nice, I really like it. I love Amazon, some great deals on there.

Note to self! Lightning deal is spelt with an L in front of it.

We've got the white brilliante kettle. It's fine and looks good in our white and grey kitchen. (How it looked was important!)

I bought a kettle and toasted from Sainsbury last year, not expensive or posh looking but it boils water and cooks bread so I'm happy.
I think some of the kettles are stupid prices for a fancy name.

Our kettle started leaking badly a couple of weeks ago, we went up Currys & brought a plain white one for £5-69 ! It's s kettle that boils water, unless you want one that purifies the water, I really don't understand spending loads of money on a gadget for boiling water - just for it to look good in the kitchen !

I have a dualit kettle as well, I've never had a problem with it leaking which I have done with previous kettles. I'm definitely a convert to this brand, I treated myself to the matching toaster and it's the best I have ever used, nice even colour all over on the bread and no ' bald' spots.

Update - new kettle is awful in that it leaks so badly that I guess it would be empty from full in around 30 mins.

I will look at the recommendations in this thread, thank you.

The Phillips is stellar and they last.

When I recommended it to you, I was surprised to see how low the price was, when I bought mine it in the region of thirty odd pounds. I ordered another one and it's since arrived and is sitting happily in a storage cupboard to take over when the one I'm using now gives up the ghost.

Read the reviews on Amazon.

We like the one cup boiler but there are times when we need to use a kettle full of boiling water to clear the sink drain.
