Yes as DVC can add on Dining Plan without tickets. It just is usually not cost effective to do so - really crunch the numbers first. I believe children and lot of character meals can be a big factor in how the cost benefit analysis falls.

I've just been on the Disney Dining Calculator and with DW and my eating habits it does not make sense to buy DDP. Like others I have perhaps been drawn into the 'free dining' offer whilst having to pay full rack rate. Will have to do my sums but knee jerk suggests renting DVC (we want to stay on site) and paying OOP is the best option. Thanks for the advice.

The DVC member whose points you rent will book a dining plan for you if you wish - David's act as the intermediary. DVC members don't need to buy park tickets to get the dining plan so, if you rent points you don't need to buy park tickets to get a dining plan either. Be aware that you would need to pay for your dining plan in US$ if you go down this route.

So advice is get your name down and be a bit flexible as to where you stay.
I’m a bit worried as we only put one choice for early February, which was for a standard studio at BLT. As there are going two of us any more that a studio would be a waste. Do people tend to get lucky on the waitlist or should I consider a second choice?

They will offer you alternatives, they did me but none suited and I had put SSR only.

I’ll have to wait and see then, I’m going to be worrying for the next few weeks.

I think you'll stand a good chance if you're already on a waitlist. I only contacted them for 2 studios at the beachclub in December at exactly 11 months out. They then had to put me on the waitlist and find me owners and they still managed to get me booked within about 3 weeks.

We are looking to book a studio at Boardwalk or BC for two weeks at the end of October 2019. I know this will be a popular time because of the F&W Festival and maybe even more if Star Wars is opened by then. I've noted the above helpful comments, can anyone tell me if they have experienced difficulties booking such accommodation at this time. Just been on the Virgin website, for two adults without tickets, car and spends BW coming out just over £7200, BC just over £6200, eye watering, although I understand they will add free dining if the offer comes out.

David's may already have a wait list but we are still a long way off and I'm not sure how long they allow the waitlist for. If I were you I'd contact them now and enquire, as you'll need an owner who can book at around 11 months for then, Star Wars or not. If you don't have that owner lined up I'm afraid chances are slim. If the owner is lined up they need to be motivated enough to be booking it quick at 11 months.
Next the Star Wars question. Rumours abound it could be delayed, but if it's opening at that time and announced well in advance a couple of things may happen.
First, owners of HWS resorts will probably have to be on at 8am ET bang on 11 months to book (if it's been announced it will be open so far in advance). So will the owner David's lines up be motivated enough to be in that bun fight.
Second, it wouldn't surprise me to see prices going up. Owners will be wanting to go themselves, and the more financially motivated may be booking anyway to sell 'confirmed weeks' at top dollar.
Hotel prices will be going up unless the economy tanks.
