Well done that’s a great achievement. I always find running such a buzz. I started out 10 yrs ago just to get fitter and amazingly managed to tick marathon of my list of things to before I turned 40. Now after 2 yrs of very little running following adoption of my beautiful girls I really need to get back to it

It must feel demoralising to see your hard-earned fitness starting to disappear through no fault of your own. But it is only a blip, and you will get back to where you were, and beyond - just take your time and keep listening to your body.

I guess I didn’t think it would take so long to get back into it! But you’re right skalexander, I just need to take my time. I only started running at the end of October last year, before that I couldn’t run to the end of our cul-de-sac! Maybe I’m being too hard on myself.
Nicki G - well done on completing a marathon. It must’ve felt amazing. I almost cried when I did my first park run with no walking! |

Thanks I almost cried but more because it hurt so bad
It’s frustrating being ill and set back but you’ve done it once you can do it again. I’ve been plagued with various injuries over years so understand your frustrations. Keep up hard work

I share your pain! I broke my wrist (boxing) a few weeks before my first half marathon (I'd never run, to speak of, until that year). It more or less stopped me from properly exercising for six weeks and I lost a lot of the fitness gains that had been so hard earnt. They did, however, come back and I went on to do my first half marathon four years ago today, coincidentally. Since then I've done lots more including a few marathons and the Dopey Challenge. You can do this

The last time i ran anywhere was through an airport in Spain. There is a running club that goes past my house once a week and I've always thought I'd like to try it but i get tight chested doing exercise in the cold. In the summer im fine so ill do my normal thing of putting it off until I don't have enough time because of work :/

I recently started at home with the treadmill or running around our local park as it has masses of fields with dirt paths which are perfect. There is also a running club too but I just go with a friend or myself. I'm feeling achy with the yoga stretches I'm doing and sometimes I want to give up but I just want feel healthier so heres hoping a month from now... it'll get easier.
eta: 9k is great! well done

Well I went back to running club last night (although if i’m honest, I didn’t feel completely ready). Anyway, I’m so glad I went. I managed 3.6 miles with one very short walk so was really pleased & surprised with that.

I would say diet is nearly 80% of the overall effect.
To achieve results easily cook all your own meals and eat nothing that is already prepared it's really tough but it's the only way. Well done on the marathon! I know that running 42KM straight would do severe long term damage to my knees.
