I don't know that Hampton Inn, but am sure it's fine. In terms of location, the Skyline is just over 10 mins walk from Times Sq. The Hampton Inn is slightly further away from Times Sq, but of course closer to other attractions like ESB, and also Macy's and Penn station / Madison Sq Gardens.

The Skyline is clean and comfortable, some of the decor is a bit dated. Rooms are mixed in size. Unusually for a hotel of this standard in NYC, it has a heated indoor pool, from which you can see some of the, er, New York Skyline...

Personally I wouldn't bother with the hassle of moving hotels on the last night just because of an early flight from JFK, since all the hotels require a shuttle I'm not sure how much time it really saves you, I'd rather enjoy my last evening in the city and just get up earlier. However, I don't agree with the poster above who stated that all the JFK hotels are dumps, that's just not true. Like most airport hotels they aren't exactly exciting, but are perfectly adequate for the purpose. Their main disadvantage is that none of them are actually on airport, they all require shuttle bus or taxi.

Sorry for the confusion, I didn’t really mean the hotels; Jamaica is a dump.

I’ve just come back from NYC and stayed at the Best Western Herald Sq, which is on 36th st, we had an amazing view of ESB from our room. The hotel was cheap, but clean and comfortable and included breakfast which was fab and included hot options so really set us up for the day. I’d stay here again as I loved the location it felt close to everything.
