Just as an aside, our DS flew from Manchester so it may be different from LHR. He said it took a very long time to get through security although he had a Fast Track ticket. He had done online check-in and it seemed that most other passengers had too. There were two queues, one for those who had and the other for those who had not. There were more desks for the "have nots" than for the "haves". So that took a long time to get through as well.

Hopefully, LHR will be better organised.

We have never flown from Heathrow but our son has when he has made the journey to Vietnam and says he finds it a very efficient airport. He uses the cheapest airlines, which can take a lot longer so we would prefer to either fly with Vietnam airlines direct or one of the quicker routes.

We have flown to Florida from Manchester and I do find quite often that it is a very hectic, slow airport.

Have a lovely holiday Justacey. You gave me lots of info on my Vietnam tips thread. We had planned to go this year, but had to postpone until 2019, which gives us more time to plan 😊.

I'm looking forward to hearing about Vietnam Airlines. I hope they are good for you, as I think I would stress less with a direct flight if Vietnam Airlines are good.

Flew Emirates recently for the first time in a while and a nice experience, found them generally very good - strong food and entertainment offerings in economy, good seats etc.

Thanks Russratten and theCMG, so another thumbs up for Emirates and thumbs down for Etihad. If we do go indirect, it seems Emirates are the better option.

Had a nightmare flight with Etihad ,the cabin was so hot on the flight out, I felt unwell and actually passed out , really scary for my wife she said she was pressing the call button for help for what seemed like ages the cabin was dark as it was a night flight , when I came round I was really sick everywhere the cabin stewards were really rude and asked how much I'd had to drink all i had drank was a glass of wine with the meal but it was clear they thought I was drunk , my wife had to be moved because I'd been sick all over her seat she was moved to the other end of the plane and was worried about me for the rest of the flight there was a nearer seat but a woman had a row of 3 seats to herself and refused to let my wife sit with her the stewards did nothing to help or even offer to help clean me up , I got off the flight in Adu Dhabi and my wife made me go to the medical centre to be checked out before we continued to Bangkok everything was fine the paramedic said my blood pressure had dropped causing the faint , the customer care was shocking and i would never ever fly with them again, and on the way back the TV wasn't working .

That sound awful, you and your wife must have been so worried. I'm glad you were ok when you landed. It's frightening to think how badly you were treated, imagine if it had been more serious, or better not to imagine really! Thanks, I will book Emirates or even Vietnam direct as they can't be as bad as your experience with Etihad.

I'm flying Etihad on the 14th March. I have flown with them many many times before and always found them excellent, I'll pop in and update when I get back and let you know how I got on x
