Must Dos in Washington DC
We are doing a DC - NY roadtrip in July. What sights would you Dibbers recommend that we go to? Deciding whether to spend 3 or 4 full days in DC before heading off on the road.
My list so far includes: Smithsonian the Capitol Washington Monument The White House Arlington Lincoln Memorial TIA |

Georgetown is a lovely area, we stayed nearby so walked around there a lot. Baked & Wired cupcakes & coffee is my top food tip!

The Capitol tour is great, and free you just have to sign up in time on the web.
Make sure you do the air and space museum up near the airport. Has all the big stuff including the Space Shuttle, Blackbird and Enola Gay.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately our Teenage DD can't ride a bike very well (she has ASD and balance issues due to this) and wouldn't be confident enough for her to do this. We cycled the Golden Gate, and really enjoyed it, but she was only 4 then, so could fit in the cart attached to the bike. At 5 foot 10, she's a bit big now!

A Dibber recently shared the contact details of a Congresswoman to contact about White House tours. I saved the details as that would be on my bucket list! norton.house.gov
Are you planning to go to Arlington Cemetery? We did the tour and it was really interesting. Very moving. We also enjoyed the Pentagon tour and did both of those on the same morning as they're the same direction. We also went to the shopping centre close to the Pentagon - great shops and some bargains! If you are planning to see the US Marine Corps Memorial by the cemetery you might want to check if the work on it has finished - we walked over (and got loads of bites from the grass) and it was all boarded up. |
