Mobile Iceberg lettuce - bitter.

Anybody know why iceberg lettuce has suddenly starting being so bitter tasting?

I've has to throw the last two away it's been so unpleasant.

Are they doing something different to it in light of covid?

I really.like super crispy and quite sweet lettuce and iceberg used to do it for me. Not any more!

Any ideas on how to make it less bitter, or on another commonly sold variety to try please ?

My salad and taste buds thank you 🥗🥗🥗.

I've switched to Little Gem or Romaine lettuce recently, both have a mild taste keep well in the fridge.

We like Chinese leaf, usually find it at Tesco, it lasts for ages (usually over a month) you can also throw it in a stirfry and it’s lovely...

I thought this was a thread for unusual home brewed beer.

I don’t think I’ll partake.

Not really relevant to the question but thought I’d ask.
Anyone else find mushrooms just don’t last long any more! I’m finding it I don’t use them within a couple of days regardless of opening or not I end up having to throw them. Don’t remember it being an issue before and they would stay fresh for a while.

Lettuce generally tastes bitter once it starts to bolt... I wonder if staff shortage has impacted on harvesting.

As for mushrooms... I think it is all the plastic... I liked it when they came in a paper bag as they like to be kept in the dark

Grow your own... cut and grow. We’ve been having fresh lettuce leaves since April.
