Anna Maria Island Beaches
So the planning now starts for our 2016 trip. I would love to visit AMI for a few days but I'm getting questions from the ladies in our family regarding the beaches. Basically they want to know what is the sand like?, is it the very fine sugary type or the more coarse ground up shell type? Any help fellow Dibbers would be appreciated.
Whilst I'm draining you of your AMI knowledge, can anyone recommend the best beaches on AMI to visit and also any good places to stay. We are villa fans (the accommodation not the team) but not sure if the same type of accommodation is available on there like you find around Kissimmee etc. How long would you stay as well? Any help advice more than welcome and gratefully recieved. Thanks Ian |

No idea on the beaches sorry but we've booked the Sunrise Gardens Apartments - they book less than a week and have one 2 bedroom unit which seems a good compromise to the villa, were villa people too (accommodation not the team lol)

Relaxing at the Grand Floridian

I have just returned from our most recent Florida trip and we spent the last week on the gulf coast near AMI. We stayed in a lovely villa in Bradenton which was a very short drive to AMI and very convenient for Sarasota area too. Here is the link if it helps:
shorewalk.co/ It's owned by a family from the UK so you can pay in £ too!

We stayed at Bradenton beach which was walking distance to bars in bridge st and the beach house and gulf cafe. The sand was like white powdery sugar and absolutely gorgeous. Views of the sunsets we're amazing. We booked through gulf coast rentals. For 2 bed 2 bath beachfront condo it was £160 per night about 4 years ago. Can't recommend the place enough. In fact we're going back next Monday.

Harrington House has various accommodation on offer and it sits right on the beach.
The sand doesn't get hot under foot, so no need for footwear even on the hottest of days. Its something to do with it being quartz and silica, cant quite remember the science behind it but it very pleasant. Like all beaches there is a wee rough patch where the waves break, small shells etc but nothing you cant cope with. As for the sea, go run yourself a bath, thats the temp of the gulf, even as you go out further and further you dont feel any drop in temp, and you don't get those cool currents you sometimes feel when in swimming, you wont believe how constantly warm the water is till you pop your feet in. The sunsets are amazing and the daily pod of dolphins swimming north in the morning around 7.30-8am and south at sunset is great to see. Sometimes you just see the fins popping up n down other times you see them jumping and playing. |

We stayed on Anna Maria Island in October for our daughters wedding. We hired a few apartments that were directly onto the beach called Anna Maria Island Inn. They were quite basic but had everything you needed to enjoy your time there. Including a BBQ on the beach. The apartment opened out onto the beach which was white sand. The sand was pretty coarse for the first maybe 20 steps and then became really soft white sand. The slope into the sea was very gradual making it easy to walk in and out of. It was lovely in the evenings to watch the sunset over the sea whilst BBQ'ing. Thoroughly recommend a trip
