Would we be covered? (sorry insurance again)

Sorry if this is a repeat thread or been answered before. I did do a forum search but couldn't find anything specific to my question.

Our Florida trip was booked via VH in Jan this year - departure date May 2021. We couldn't book insurance at the time of booking as our departure was more than a year away (only single trip cover we looked at, we don't go away enough to need an annual policy).

Fast forward to March & we have a worldwide pandemic with all these restrictions & cancellations in place! So my question is, if I take an insurance policy now, would we be covered for cancellation due to COVID? I know a lot are not covering cancellation just medical, but as we booked our holiday BEFORE the pandemic would we be covered? Or because we are taking the actual policy after the pandemic started would we only be covered for medical?

Thanks

I think you would be fine.

Coverforyou is one of the most comprehensive policies on offer at the mo. Take a look on their web page, and if necessary ask them your question.

Have a good time

I’d suggest calling them, but almost certainly not as COVID is a now a known event and insurance covers the unforeseen. When you booked the holiday likely doesn’t matter sadly.

It depends on the insurer. When you booked the holiday is irrelevant to a degree as the restrictions apply as of when you take out the policy itself.

You will need to find a policy which has Covid cancellation cover for new bookings.

My information is different, the conditions at the time of booking are indeed critical with many insurers. For that reason, many are holding back on new bookings (USA critical).

Best check with your insurer.

OP doesn't have an insurer, that's the point.

You will need to find an insurer who is still covering pandemic cancellation for me bookings, which it is to them.

There are companies still offering this cover (one possibility mentioned above). So it is possible to get that level of cover. How much additional it costs I have no idea as not looked.

When I looked yesterday it seems it not the date you booked the holiday but the date you start your insurance.
I suppose in a way it’s like being critically ill and then trying to get insurance to cover you for that after the fact .
However , we have found insurance to cover us if we still choose to go to Spain that will cover medical/ covid up to 59 years of age but won’t cover holiday cancellation due to covid.

Again I reiterate...

If at the time you booked the FCO advice was not to travel (as now) many companies will exclude covid cancellation cover, if you have an annual cover (As many have) or upon subsequent purchase (some companies)

As for OP...

Even though already booked as FCO advice is not to travel, covid cancellation may be excluded.

This is not meant to be contentious, it is just making us all aware of how some companies wriggle out of claims, so to be 100% safe, do not rely on me or any other poster...

ASK ALL THE QUESTIONs BEFORE YOU PURCHASE TRAVEL INSCE

I want NO to dibber to fall into a trap.

Spot on. Sadly I think it’s only a matter of time before we see thread after thread on people loosing money as insurance companies refuse to pay out.

You need to be 100% sure and confident of your policy - if that means speaking to the insurer in length or going over the small print with a fine tooth comb you must do it!
