Orlando city centre
Hi
Here now we’re unable to go on our road trip due to the fuel shortages starting on the day we were supposed to leave. So we remained in Orlando area.we are doing different things and would like to visit the city centre. Where is the best place to go for say parking which makes the centre accessible? Is there anything in particular we should aim to see? We think we’ll go to Lake Eola too. Thanks

Ah, you mean lake Eola. That's where you participate in hobo watching. Plenty of them around the lake edge if you get bored looking at the wildlife. Never seen so many homeless people in one place.

I’m not sure there is too much to see in downtown Orlando; tends to be more those going there for a sporting or entertainment event or a specific independent eaterie?

Orlando doesn't seem to have a City centre, these are the areas that make up the city. I think Church Street is the most famous but Ivanhoe Village and Audubon Park Garden District are interesting
orlandomainstreets/ Lake Eola has a Farmers Market on Sundays, the intinerants do not cause any trouble. orlandofarmersmarket/

The 'downtown' area (not called a city centre), like many others in the US, is primarily a business district - lots of high-rise office blocks belonging to financial institutions, so not terribly exciting as a destination. Most people go for events/sport/concerts at places like the Amway Center, Orlando City stadium and Dr Philips Center. Lake Eola is a pleasant place to stroll around, with swan shaped boats for hire, and a Sunday farmers market. Yes there are tramps, like in any other city these days, but they are not a problem - everyone just ignores them. The Church St/Orange Ave/Wall St area is a major evening nightlife area for locals - there's The Social (a music club), a comedy club plus lots of bars. Plenty of parking garages. There are things like museums, which I haven't investigated. Plus their version of Boris bikes for hire. You'll find lots of info on the Downtown Orlando web site downtownorlando/

The Dr Phillips Center for the Performing Arts has some great broadway shows. We also enjoy a trip to the History Center. Thornton Park is a nice area, and the Grand Bohemian Hotel does a great brunch on Sunday.
If you are travelling on a weekday, Sunrail is a good way to get there. sunrail/ Edited to add: However Sunrail May be suspended due to the hurricane, sorry!
