Mobile Renewing passport online

Does anyone know the best way to get a digital photo that would be acceptable for online renewal? I had a right kerfuffle with the man at the post office last time I had to renew as my fringe covered my eyebrows and I ended getting three lots of photos taken before he’d accept it. Is it easier to do a paper renewal and put it through the Post Office check service or is it easy to renew online? TIA

I did mine last week. I got the photo taken at a booth in Tesco that actually does a check on the photo for you. You don’t even need to send the photo in as you just upload the reference number printed on the photo and the passport site can find it digitally. Whole process took 15 mins ( longer to drive to Tesco to get the photo done), then you send your old passport back to the passport office. You can even select to have text messages to keep you updated on progress - I now know they have received my old passport.

Thank you. That sounds easy enough. How did you verify your photo - you used to have to get someone to sign the back of a hard copy photo?

There’s no need for someone to counter sign your photos anymore, unless you’ve “significantly changed appearance” or for a child under 11.

Mine needed renewing this year when I asked in the post office for forms they said just come in with your old passport.
It was the easiest thing to do ever. I used to dread filling in those forms.

So what did they do in the Post Office for you?

We took our own photos on our I phone and just uploaded them to the passport application web site which checks it immediately if it is acceptable or not... ours uploaded on the second attempt so no travelling or paying a photo booth company

That’s good. I dread having it rejected because I’ve made a mistake on the form or with the photos. So glad that it sounds like they’ve simplified the whole thing. I never could understand all the fuss when it’s just being renewed

They take your photo, email address and phone number and that is it.
