Ciao Rome! March 2017

Hello Everyone!

This is a completely spontaneous trip I booked at New Year for Ben's birthday!

The flights were £50 each return! I've added fast track Rome to EMA (£7 total)

You might have read my other reports but if not here's a link

https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/sho...d.php?t=971135

You'll notice most of my trip reports are long haul, we've only been to Disneyland Paris & Berlin in Europe so I feel a bit out of my depth going to Rome!

I needed somewhere to gather my thoughts so here goes!

Travel Day

Our flight is at 4pm so we'll set off about 1 PM. Will probably have a brunch type breakfast rather than food at the airport. If we are peckish there are places to grab something but will probably wait until we get to Rome.
We're taking hand luggage only.
We are due to land at Ciampino around 8 PM. Will get the Terravision or Sit bus to Termini (€4/5 each).
I was completely overwhelmed when looking at hotels so I've gone for 3 hotels for the 3 nights. Crazy huh?! Plus I probably shouldn't have booked this with Japan being so close so budget was everything!
First night - Hotel Romantica £41 bed & breakfast (plus €8 city tax)

I don't know much about Rome but I'm told it's smaller than I imagined. I booked this because being close to Termini station seemed like a good idea!
There's 24hr Mcds if really hungry when we arrive if we can't find anything else! (I did say we're on a budget! )
We will get breakfast and check out for 11 AM.

Day 1 - Ben's Birthday

So we'll have had breakfast at the hotel and I'll leave my suitcase (cabin size) at their luggage storage while we head to The Vatican!
Our reservation is at 12:30, we'll get the metro around 11:30 (€7 day ticket each) to Cipro/Ottaviano.
We'll spend the afternoon around Vatican City and find somewhere for lunch.
Once we're done (feedback seems to indicate this could be a half day thing) we'll head back to the hotel to grab my case then move to hotel 2.
Hotel Colosseum - Bed & breakfast £65 (plus €8 city tax).
As it's Ben's birthday I thought it'd be nice to have a little bit of a nicer hotel! It might be a rainy day but if it's nice they have a terrace so I'd like to check out the view!

We're still looking into places to eat (recommendations from Dibbers - Mami, Li Roni, Saltimbocca, La Base, Cantina E Cucina, Gelateria Come Il Latte & The Gin Corner)
We will grab a drink at Brewdog (Been to Nottingham/Birmingham/Edinburgh) and work out a plan for the evening!

Day 2 - Exploring Rome

Check out is by 11 AM so we'll grab breakfast, leave my cabin case in their luggage storage and head to Colosseum (Open 8:30-5).
We will have a full day to explore Rome so probably get this ticked off first being a Saturday! If we haven't already we will pop to Hard Rock Cafe so I can get a magnet and Disney Store to see what Rome merchandise they have!
I'm sure there's other stuff I've not mentioned but planning head on this week so we don't miss anything!
Once we're done we'll hop on the metro (€1.50) to Ciampino Hotel for our final evening. The metro runs until midnight on Saturday so we'll probably get dinner in Rome first.
Our flight home is early so to bed we go as the shuttle to the airport is 5 AM!

Day 3 - Hometime!

This hotel is room only and to be honest we probably wouldn't want anything that early!
The airport looks tiny, bit like Berlin!
Our flight is 6:40 and we land about half 8, the bus back into Nottingham is every half hour.

Thanks for reading!
