in flight oxygen

hi all dibber's really am looking for advice about any previous experiences regards in flight oxygen, feeling quite stressed about it as is a rather important necessity

we usually fly with BA / virgin and i know they include it free of charge, with receipt of a fit to fly letter, but this time we are flying in august and any airline is on the table and i'm not sure about other policies.

i saw a Lufthansa flight but when i checked with them they charge 300per part of flight so with a stop that's 1200 pounds

just looking for previous experiences and if any body has brought there own with them and how easy was it ?

all advice is well appreciated

No responses yet, so may be worth posting it in the special needs section. Not sure how you move a thread though maybe someone can advise.

My husband had to have oxygen on the flight and he will need it again in 2018. We flew with VA and they were fantastic, to be honest we didn't look at any other airline as they have always been fantastic with my sons, many medical needs. Our consultant recommended we us BA or VA as they don't charge for oxygen on the flight. The staff were amazing from VA special assistance to cabin crew. If you want any other questions, you can PM me and if I can I will help.

As far as I am aware you cannot bring your own O2 cylinders on board any airline. They all insist on supplying it for safety/security reasons.

Above poster is right.
My son has needed oxygen on all flights, for the last few years & prior to that it was booked just in case.
We have only ever flown long haul, with Virgin & BA who provide it free.
Some airlines do charge for oxygen, at a very expensive cost.

thanks MargaretMouse all help is much appreciated we have also used va and you are right they were fantastic with us aswell, were using ba in november and they too have been good up to now both with no charge.

but next year we are planning on going in august and i think these airlines will be out of reach regards price but not if we have to pay for oxygen.

i have requested a quote to hire a poc (personal oxygen concentrator) which is faa approved and a few airlines like swiss and lufthansa say you can bring with you. so maybe thats an option.

Norwegian don't supply oxygen at all you have to use a poc

quick update and maybe help for some one else.

Had a quote today for an Inogen One G3 lightweight 4lpm portable oxygen concentrator, with two extra life batteries and everything else needed for flying and is faa approved

quote was for £365 pounds for 16 days rental inc delivery and collection in august from pure 02.

not sure if that's cheap but its a start point and might help others decide when factoring in flight prices.

if any body has used one of these units or the company before would love to here.

many thanks
