Mobile Does Avis offer 'Skip the counter'

Booked through Alamo this year and it was great going straight to the garage.

Last year through BA we got an Avis car and stood for ages in a queue to sort the paperwork.

Just booked through BA again and wondered if Avis have a similar ' Skip the counter' thing like Alamo.

I am a BA executive club member and have joined Avis Preferred but not sure if this gives any advantages. The Avis account does not show any booking made via BA.

Any advice ?

Longer term, on Avis preferred, your name appears on an electronic board next to the booth in the parking garage. It has your row/bay number on it and you can walk straight to your car, so need to interact with anyone at all - unless of course there's a problem with the car.

On your very first Preferred hire though, I'm pretty sure you have to go to the booth.

Sounds great- sorry to jump on thread but is there a charge for Avis Preferred?

We are BA/Avis "virgins" in November and from what I've read on here since we booked that's exactly how I understand it. First time Preferred users don't get their name on a board but the car is already allocated. There's a swap line apparently if you don't like your allocation. My plan is to go straight to the kiosk in the garage on side B and hope it's almost as easy as Alamo STC.

As far as I can see it's only a loyalty club like Tesco Deals. I booked BA/Avis fly-drive on the BA site then joined Preferred then rang Avis on the same day to link my booking.

Yes, Avis Preferred is a free service. And having just come back as a first-time user of their service, I can confirm everything said above - your name won't be on the screen, but 2 mins at the kiosk in the garage to show your licence and you'll be off in your car.

Thanks for confirming. Presume you went to side B garage?

Yes, B side, because it was closer to our arrival gate, although I'm told that either side would work.

Thanks. As we never do the courtesy bag transfer (aka 2nd bag drop) we would always go to the garage on side B.
