We aren't going to Japan but we have booked our flights to HK via Dubai with Emirates. In their sale in January we only paid £400 per adult / £300 per child. That is from Glasgow.

We are in Dubai for 6 nights on the way then HK for 7 nights flying back via Dubai again but without a stopover.

We had originally intended to just go to Dubai but it was no more to add on the flights to HK too.

I will definitely try; I've started a pre-trip report but I'm still trying to finish my DLP one!

[QUOTE=Brock;12474120]We are flying to HK later this year via Singapore

This was significantly cheaper than direct to HK from London may be worth having a look

London - Singapore - Japan[/QUOTE
This is what I would like to do next year, thank you for the info.

We were going to do Hong Kong on the way out but thought it better to get the longer flight out of the way there and work our way back.

This sounds like what I want to do! I was struggling to find flights from Manchester, did you book direct with Cathay Pacific?

Yes I did. I think I looked via Skyscanner first but wherever possible I like to book direct with the airline, so then I went to the Cathay Pacific website. I think it was a tiny bit more direct rather than through a third party but I think it is worth it. I think the flights cost just over £900 each, so not cheap, but I thought they weren't terrible for the amount of miles we were covering. I chose the multi-city option and put Manchester to Tokyo, Osaka to Hong Kong, Hong Kong to Manchester. It just happens that the Manchester to Tokyo goes via HK, I think we have a 2.5 hour layover. I booked them at the end of September last year, so soon after they were out for August this year.

Yes I am really looking forward to Hong Kong and Japan as I haven't been to either before. I will be writing a trip report as it is something a bit different to what we normally do :-). I enjoyed your trip report on your Japan trip.

Thanks Suzy, I hadn't thought of flying back from Osaka, I'll have a look at different combinations.

Although we also had Shanghai in the mix I booked with Emirates Man-HKG via Dubai with the return leg Narita to Man again via Dubai, and separate 1 way flights HKG-PVG with Hong Kong Airlines and Delta PVG-Narita.
In economy the Emirates flights for 2 were about £1300
Hong Kong Airlines about £300
Delta in Comfort+ about £300
