Washington DC - just the two of us
Hi,
In just a few days DH and I are heading off to Washington DC for fifteen days. DD1 will be staying home and looking after the house for us. Firstly a bit about us, Me (52): I am the trip planner, organiser and booker. I am expected to research everything except police stations (see below), decide what we are doing and when and ensure that all runs smoothly. Good job I am a control freak and wouldn't want to cede decision making! DH (54): just wants an easy life with everything organised except as a retired police officer he has a hobby of photographing police cars and making models of them. He will research the location of every police station near to where we are visiting and we usually visit most of them he also orders models that you can only get in the US but I have to work out how/where we are getting them shipped to to fit in with our itinerary. He is also the chief packer (he is excellent at this and nothing ever gets broken in transit) and deals with all the cases and hand luggage other than my handbag. He is chief photographer although I generally take some photos of us. We have been to lots of places in the USA but not Washington. Originally we were going to split the trip with a week in DC and then a week touring Virginia and Maryland but I quickly realiased that there was so much to see and do that it wouldn't be practical to only have a week in DC. So the final plan. VS UC 12/5 - 27/5 LHR-IAD-LHR using DTCI for the first time (our other VS UC flights have been from Gatwick which doesn't have it). 15 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment in Clarendon which is next to Arlington and just across the river from DC itself. It is close to a metro station and also lots of restaurants including a Cheesecake Factory. Car hire from the Tuesday of the second week which we will have to go back to the airport to pick up, our apartment has a dedicated parking space so we won't have to worry about where to park each night. We have booked some things such as a tour of the Capitol building, a tour of Fords Theater and a tour of the Pentagon but other things are more fluid depending on how we feel. Our Esta's are valid until December 2018 and our passports till 2020 so we didn't have to worry about those. We will take a mixture of cash and Fairfx cards (one each) and will each have a different credit card as backup. Now it's just a case of waiting until it's time to go

We're doing a whistle stop your version of D.C. with only 7days. We have arranged a Capitol tour and a Pentagon tour along with a tour of Arlington cemetery. Everything else is on a to do list
