Tips... confused

Hi all,

Going on 1st cruise in Nov, 3 night Dream to Bahamas and Castaway Cay.

Please can someone clarify tipping, I thought I had it in my head that the tips were added to the room and paid at the end on the room charges. Then I read somewhere about giving out envelopes to the staff at the end... confused - I just want to clarify what we need to do so everyone gets what they should get. How/when do we tip - any help please!

You can pay before you board if you want or they will add it to your room charge on board. They give you envelopes and a slip saying how much which you give to the staff to say thank you. You can put more in if you want then if you feel you have had exceptional service. We have added more before. We have also had awful service and been unable to block the payment to them as had pre paid.

Tips are paid at the end. You can add them to your room if you want to (automatically done) or give cash. The envelop is to put either the slip you get for your charge to your room (left on your bed the last day usually) or the cash and then you give this to the relevant staff member.

And just so you know, even if you don't give the envelopes out, the crew will still get their tips.
The envelopes are just really a reason to say thank you to them.

Sorry, bit confused here.

If you were paying cash, how would that work? I wasn't planning giving them my card details anyway, don't want to use the card on holiday.

Not that I'm not intending to tip, lol.

Or does that mean Mickey meets you at the end of the cruise, punches you in the face and takes the money from your wallet/purse?

You can call at guest services and tell them that you would rather pay your tips in cash. On the last night there will a sheet with the names of your stateroom host, servers etc and a recommended tip amount and an envelope for each person. You just put your cash in the envelopes and give those to the people who have served you (we usually end up giving more than the recommended)

Bear in mind that the ship is cashless. Everything is charged to your room.

I think you can pay the balance off in cash though.

My understanding is with cash, you have to add some cash on to your onboard account at the beginning of the cruise. Not 100% sure as I've never used just cash I always have a card too.
