Panorama - drunk airline passengers
Tonight at 8:30pm BBC1
Panorama investigates the growing numbers of British passengers flying drunk. Tina Daheley uncovers shocking footage filmed by passengers and meets whistleblowers Be interesting to see what they say about it i.e. how are people allowed to get so drunk ... It is illegal to board a plane drunk ... so how are they getting so much alcohol on board to be abusively drunk. According to Panorama the rise in drunks on planes has gone up 50% in just this last year ! Edited at 09:45 AM. Reason: correct my rubbish typos :) |

We haven't seen anything on a Florida flight but a couple of times on flights to Vegas. Last time there was a stag party on the flight and one guy was totally plastered as he got on. By half way across they had stopped service any alcohol st all and 2 mail air hostesses stood over him and his mates for the remainder of the flight. Was disgraceful behaviour. Police were there when we landed and they were off first.

The airline should not have allowed him on the plane if he was totally plastered when he got on, so they need to be stricter. How uncomfortable for the passengers to be sat near a group of drunks on an 11 hour flight. Many years ago me and my wife got a night flight to spain and we were so uncomfortable I was close to getting off before the plane took off (wish I had). We got talking to a pleasant young female cabin crew member and were horrified at some of what she told us about the abuse she takes from drunk groups (we witnessed some of it).
We have never been on a night flight since the above time and have always paid more for morning/daytime flights, although I appreciate some drunks go on flights at anytime of the day. |

will make for interesting viewing
there was an ex air steward on bbc earlier saying she actually refused to fly to montego bay as it was always a nightmare for drunks although just been on local news arrests/incidents at Newcastle have actually went down significantly , bucking this trend.. |

There's loads of flight programs on this week there's the easyJet inside the cockpit program starts tonight on itv1 too.
I've never seen drunken behaviour on a florida flight but seen it on Spanish holiday flights and my OH went to lanzarote for a few days a few weeks back and he was on a Ryanair flight that pilot or copilot had to come out of cockpit and talk to two very drunk passengers who OH said were clearly steaming before they boarded plane |

Coming back from Florida one year about 10 years ago, the people sitting in the row behind us were getting drunk. I quietly got up and went to where the cabin crew were resting to say to them "How many more drinks are you going to give row ? before they are escorted off the plane". When they asked for more drinks the cabin crew said "We think you have had enough, and maybe have some sleep" At least they didn't start any trouble and did go to sleep.
We will be watching this program and recording the next one about EasyJet as can't miss GofT. It always amazes us how many people are drinking beers with their breakfasts at Gatwick Melvin and Lesley
