Green Mountains, Vermont- where to stay
I'm planning a road trip around New England for end sept/October 18. Me & DH for approx 14 nights.
Having this summer a fantastic 16 night road trip in California, Arizona & Nevada with 6 stops we want to limit this next trip to 4 stops, with a bit longer to chill & explore each place. Flying into Boston the plan is a 3 or 4 nights at each Boston, Green mountains, White Mountains & ending in Cape Cod. This route avoids Columbus Day / weekend in Woodstock & should take us to see the fall colours Please can I have your recommendations for where to stay maybe 3 (or 2 minimum) nights in the section in between Boston & Jackson in White Mountains (Christmas Inn) I've seen recommendations for: The Manchester view in Manchester Bennington Woodstock What about: Killington, Montpelier or Stowe Thanks

We stayed in Bennington. Nice area and lots of nice things. We visited an old Church and graveyard, a museum, a battle monument tower and a farm shop specialising in apples, cider and maple syrup.
I would also recommend Bar Hatbor in Acadia. We would do Boston, Cape Cod, Green Mountains and Acadia again. We would skip White Mountains next time. It was ok but didn't want to return. Happy planning.

Thanks Bennington sounds nice. Do you mind me asking what hotel you stayed in?

It was the Hampton Inn. Not quaint or scenic, but it was very comfortable, included breakfast, had a nice pool and we enjoyed our stay there.

Thanks I'll check it out. Am I right in thinking you did a trip report? If so I'll go & look!

Didn't do a trip report as such, but found this post about it.
We went to NY and New England. We flew into/ out from Newark. Our NY stay was for 5 nights at the Distrikt Hotel. Very friendly and good central location. From NY we drove up to Cape Cod and stayed in Bayside Hotel in West Yarmouth. Really loved it there. Great setting at back of hotel facing across water. We then went onto Boston and stayed at the Colonnade. Got a good deal from Virgin holidays for this stay. Central and good view. Loads to do in Boston and very nice city. Recommend the Duck Tour. Next was Acadia. We stayed in Bar Harbor Motel. Very friendly with free bus service into town running just outside. Great town to go around. Recommend the pizza cinema! Also recommend the tour of Acadia. Our next stop was in North Conway New Hampshire at the Hampton Inn. Nice hotel but there wasn't a pool as such, just series of water slides into water and get out straightaway. We did the Cog Railway. Of all the places we stayed wouldn't want to go back. Nothing really awful. Just prefer the other towns we visited. Our final New England stay was at the Hampton Inn Bennington Vermont. Again a nice hotel and had a proper pool. We loved it in Bennington. Went to the Battle Monument, museum, the Old Congregational Church and the Apple Barn a great farm shop selling apples, non alcoholic cider, maple syrup and lots of other things with free tasters. We spent our final night at a Newark Airport Hotel. In total our holiday was just over 3 weeks long. If we went back to New England would like to do a few days in Boston and a longer stay for each of Cape Cod, Acadia and Vermont.

It was a long time ago, but we stayed at the green mountain inn in Stowe when we did our New England road trip. It was very nice and is in the middle of Stowe so we had lots of eateries within walking distance.

We stayed at the Green Mountain Inn 2 years ago and it is lovely. They have a wide variety of rooms, a really nice outdoor pool, fabulous breakfasts and we also had a delicious dinner in the Whip Bar & Grill.
Stowe itself is a very pretty little town with gift shops, art galleries and lots of choice of restaurants. |
