There is a page on facebook called Key West Finest. In normal times it is a resource for what is on / where to stay/ restaurants etc but it has been updated fairly regularly with what is happening post Irma. It might help you to get a feel for what is happening down there.

It's in a bad way at the moment by the looks of things. I'd be amazed if it was completely back to normal in 7 week. But this is America we are talking about, so anything is possible!
Approx 65% of homes suffered major damage according to FEMA. I've been watching the news. Here is a video from the FB site mentioned which shows the devestation and what it was like during the hurricane, facebook/reedtimmerA...a5yqcDccPiNlzo Edited at 07:49 PM. |

Wow...that was so sad to watch.
I hope they can rebuild and recover quickly.

We are also due there in seven weeks and we have taken the decision to cancel and go elsewhere.
We have looked at the property we are due to staying on the Noah website satellite and it has some major damage so we are pretty sure it won't be habitable. We also feel we don't want to holiday in a disaster zone where things for many people will be pretty desperate. We have been many times before and will go again but for us for our own safety and for the sake of making a choosing to make a decision rather than hanging it out we have decided not to go this time. Instead we are flying into Phoenix (Arizona) and diving through Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado a less travelled tourist route. It feels good to have made a decision, be trying something new and making our own choice. We have full refunds from the places we had booked! |
