Top Of The World Lounge

We are new to DVC and literally signed the papers before our visit to Disney World a couple of weeks ago, so we took advantage of everything we could while we were out there. One of the nicest things we managed to do all holiday was Top Of The World Lounge. Sitting at the bar chatting to Mike (I think that was his name) and watching him make the cocktails then going onto the balcony to watch the fireworks was absolutely fantastic.

I just wanted to know if this is something they plan on keeping for all DVC members or is it just temporary and going back to people staying at Bay Lake Tower only?

Originally when it opened it was only for members staying on points at BLT. We went up there a few times in the first year it opened and it was never busy so I think it couldn't have been making much money. Eventually it was opened up to all members staying on points at any resort

As long as it makes a profit I can't see them changing anything - it is one of the best DVC perks and is a great spot to watch fireworks from without the crowds

We head for here on our arrival night. Grab a snack and a drink and watch the fireworks. Nice way to be eased into Disney.

That's good to know, it was quite busy the night we went, but, it was such a good atmosphere.

We wasn't sure if we would get in because we wasn't staying on points, it was an holiday we arranged before buying into DVC, but, it wasn't a problem once he scanned our Magic Band and checked the membership card.

Do you just go to reception at BLT and ask to go to the lounge?
Would like to try this next year.

We went to the reception of Bay Lake Tower, told them we wanted to go there, we then went to another counter and they scan your Magic Band, and in our case, check your membership card, you then go to the lifts and someone comes down to get you or may already be standing by the lift, that's it.

I suppose the Cali Grill lounge (with ADR) is the non DVC members opportunity to do what you did.

So jealous of this.

Just to add: contractually they can remove the perk from BLT DVC members also, if they choose to do so.

It's a fabulous perk and I hope they don't do that; I've not been up for a few years but it's pleasing to hear it's being well used. In the early days you only saw a few tables occupied - with an onslaught of people coming to watch Wishes with their refillable mugs (ie not spending money!) and then leaving as soon as Wishes ended.

As I understood it BLT members pay for the lounge with their dues. It forms part of the resort. It isn't a perk, hence why they couldn't stop resale members going in. Perks are non contractual freebies, paid for mainly for marketing new timeshares by DVD, not DVC. Like the member's lounge at Epcot.
