Flight refunds

Anyone who had their flights cancelled holding out for a refund?
I'm so annoyed at the ineptitude of Virgin whilst out there. Misinformation, lack of communication and rudeness to name but a few.
Yes, I know in the grand scheme of things we were lucky and got home 24 hours later, but Virgin have really left a bad taste in my mouth

I was under the impression that a flight cancelled due to weather related issues doesn't get a refund. Our flight was cancelled, due to hurricane Harvey (we were flying home via Houston), I'd
Checked a few days before our flight was due to leave as it seemed like common sense to do so. Once our flight was officially cancelled I called United who could only get us on a flight a day later. I appreciated that in a difficult time we got home as quickly as they could.

Surely though if you don't fly you are still entitled to a refund of the Advanced Passenger Duty (APD)?

I never understand the attitude that if some major issue occurs, people expect a snappy, slick service.
Think of your own workplace what it would be like if therecwas major issue.
The sheer amount of people this effected would tax any business or government.

That equally doesn't excuse bad attitude in the other direction.

If people are polite they should expect the same in return, and they should also expect a reasonable level of effort and customer service.

Sadly it's often lacking these days as airlines make more and more cut backs to keep prices low.

Did you actually cancel your booking then make another with a different airline or was it cancelled by Virgin and tbey rebooked you? If you cancelled what did Virgin say before you cancelled? If Virgin didn't offer you the right to cancel and get a refund then you might not get any money back.

there was a natural disaster, with millions people losing their homes, people dead, the island of Barbuda population reduced to zero! hundreds if not thousands of people stranded, staff in hotels working super hard to ensure people are safe.

Virgin were probably getting information left, right and center and didn't know what was going on themselves.

We cancelled our TC flights on Friday, the day before we were supposed to fly. The Saturday flight was cancelled at the last minute anyway.

I had an issue because the card I'd booked the flights with had expired and been replaced with a new one. TC told me they had to refund to the original card. Booked the new flights on credit cards hoping the money would be refunded before the cards needed to be paid.

After all that angst, the money as back in my account the following day.

I as pleasantly surprised, but it wouldn't have worried me if it had taken a few weeks to process. As someone has suggested in a previous post, it's a matter of getting your priorities in the right order. It hasn't even been a week since Irma passed through and changed lives!
