Claiming travel insurance, just for one passenger

How do you go about claiming one person's share of a holiday? Is it quite straightforward? Our villa is booked between 3 people & one might need to cancel. The flights are booked separately, and we wouldn't be cancelling the car.

Off to France with DMIL aged 86. Normally fit as a flea, she has developed a sore knee since Post Office insurance was taken out & when DH phoned to inform them they withdrew the cover and said she could cancel policy and have a refund.

So we are trying to get a new policy, probably with Saga, but are waiting on the result of an x ray & hopefully a diagnosis of bursitis. At the moment, nobody will insure her with an undiagnosed condition

If she decides to cancel, the Post Office will cover that. Is it just a case of sending the receipt for the villa, but telling them that it's just one third share? Obviously we are still going to use the Villa ourselves. Or does the insurance only pay out if you cancel the accommodation completely?

Not exactly sure, but i expect they wouldnt cover the cost of the villa as you are still going to use it, tbh if it is not a great amount could those going just give your DMIl the money for her share?

All well, GP has downgraded her sore knee to "soft tissue injury" & written a fit to travel letter. Saga are happy to insure for this, though a bit more expensive that Post Office.

To be honest, was not impressed with Post Office Insurance. They were too quick to offer to cancel insurance and refund policy cost, rather than face a possible claim for her to cancel the holiday.
