Just as a general point of note regarding the food at Alton Towers - in the last couple of months they have outsourced all of their food provision to a third party company (who are most well known for providing catering to US schools and prisons!).

Other Merlin parks did the same thing last year and it has resulted in a big drop in quality alongside an increase in prices across the board (since not only have Merlin got to make a profit, this new third party also wants their cut too). Early reports coming out of Alton Towers from their half term event is that the same thing is happening here.

So I would certainly avoid planning a sit down meal any time soon - it just isn't worth your time or money.

To the OP it sounds like you have already decided to eat off site (good choice!) The Star at Cotton is a five minute drive from the park and is a lovely country pub with great food.

Totally agree with you. We have been 3 times now and have always had good food and my son loves the novelty factor. We would have no issue in recommending it. 👍

The Premier Inn at Uttoxeter does a meal deal if you can’t get booked anywhere else. Full English breakfast and dinner of your choice including either a starter or desert. 20% off normal price. Menu looks OK 👌

This has been doing the rounds on Twitter today.

A look at the level of catering the new third party provider delivers. This was a room service breakfast delivered to a guest staying at the Luxury tree houses that cost around £900 per night. Yum yum!

There’s a barman there, older guy with ponytail and dangly earring and he makes THE best passionfruit martini .. I have had probably 20 since our last visit in cheaper places and high end and the one he made me is still in the number one slot ..

The Secret Garden restaurant in the Alton Towers hotel was always nice, if over priced. Haven't been in the last year though.

Woodcutters is the best food...

Pizza place is the best value...

Rollercoaster Restaurant for the wow / novelty...

Burger Kitchen is alright if you just want your basic fastfood burger...

Chicken Place I would avoid...
