WDW Monorail Crash - Driver Killed

At around 2am on Sunday July 5, Monorail Pink and Monorail Purple collided at the TTC. At this stage it appears that both monorails had been operating on the Epcot line. The driver of Monorail Purple was killed at the scene. Approximately 6 guests were on the monorail, and no guests were injured.

Disney have released the following statement.

"Today, we mourn the loss of our fellow cast member. Our hearts go out to his family and those who have lost a friend and coworker. The safety of our guests and cast members is always our top priority. The monorail is out of service and we will continue to work closely with law enforcement to determine what happened and the appropriate next steps."

Following this morning's crash involving monorail pink and monorail purple, the monorail remains out of the service on all lines.

Alternative transport is in place:

From the Grand Floridian, Polynesian and Contempory Resorts:
Guests traveling to Epcot should utilize Epcot buses from the resort bus stops.
Guests traveling to Magic Kingdom may utilize regular watercraft transportation or buses from the resort bus stops.
Guests traveling to Magic Kingdom from the Transportation and Ticket Center may utilize the Ferryboat or buses.

Guests traveling between Epcot and Magic Kingdom should travel by bus.

Here is a video that the Orlando Sentinel has put online that was taken by Diane Cimino of Briton, CT earlier in the week that the accident happened. You can clearly see he loves his job and interacts well with guests!

Very sad news, just read about it on sky news,you dont imagine that accidents like this would happen at disney,this may put an end to visitors travelling upfront with the driver from now on.

Yes - our thoughts are with the young cast member who lost his life.

And we have to thank the heavens that more people were not injured - guests often ride in with the driver and in the rear compartment - and there would have been even more injured if this had been the case at this time.

This is what i was wondering - we were going to try it this year for the first time as we have wanted to do it for years...maybe we will never get the chance now!

I am so shocked, I rode the MK/Epcot monorail on Thursday returning to the UK yesterday. As always it seemed so safe, so futuristic and incapable of any type of failure. My thoughts are with the operator's friends and relatives.
