We go mid Feb and don't really want yet more renovations going on, theres enough already!
It took about 3 months for the wand to go from SSE so maybe a similar sort of timescale?

I shall really miss the hat, our favourite show is Fantasmic and love Sorcerer Mickey so the hat has always been the perfect icon for HS for us

I doubt that anything will take its place - I would think they would just leave the area open and clear for character meets and the like.

Didn't this have something to do with planned renovations to Great Movie Ride or did I make that up?

I like the hat, but I've never loved it. I love the Chinese Theatre so was quite annoyed when this massive hat went up, completely blocking the view. I still call it MGM!

It was an open space, when you entered the park you would be able to see the Chinese theatre in the distance.

As I said above - a flower bed which was Mickey's nose in the park's gigantic Hidden Mickey. At Christmas the tree would be here (instead of outside the park like it is now) with large scale toy trains running around its base.

... and I fear that Disney's attempt to rebrand their lakeside shops and restaurants to "Disney Springs" will fail too. Most of us will still say Downtown Disney.
