Walt Disney World Installs Metal Detectors.
Disney is in the process of installing Metal Detectors at it's theme parks in Orlando as part of it's increased security measures. Guests will be selected at random to undergo additional screening via the metal detectors.
Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Disney is also "discontinuing the sale of toy guns and no longer allowing people older than 14 to wear costumes". SeaWorld and Universal will also be using metal detectors at their theme parks. Image ©Disney

Great news.
Just allow more time to get into the parks and be aware of what you can and can't take in and it'll all go smoothly. Of course people will complain- but usually those with something to hide- or are argumentative and confrontational. We have to keep Mickey safe x |

Good news about them discontinuing toy guns, I wish this could be a universal thing and not just Disney!

What does the costume rule mean for MNSSHP? I though they already had a rule for over 14's during non special event times?

Sorry but I disagree, how can buzz defeat Zurg with a carrot?
Like it or not guns are an integral part of lots of characters from buzz to jack sparrow, kids will want to replicate their favourite character and whether it's a fairy wand or jacks gun they should be allowed. |

I guess it is always going to be a matter of personal preference and opinion. I know I wouldn't buy my own children toy guns/swords to play with but appreciate not everyone would feel this way

It's the main story in the news this morning here, I'm happy with the decision but feel it should be compulsory to all not just random!
When it's random selection you can miss things so why not just scan everyone? Let's face it the bag checks are a joke, you could shove a gun in the push chair or just keep it in your pocket and your in! The other thing I noticed in sea world yesterday was the amount of police officers their, in every show we went to there was a police officer standing at the back, and greeting everyone at the entrance to the show, I have never noticed that before, maybe a sign of the times? |
