Iceland
Thinking of doing this and put a q on an actual Iceland forum to ask whether Feb is a good time to see the NL however not very clear as ppl kept saying don’t go expecting to see them and there is more to Iceland . Well I know this but would be a nice to know whether it’s more likely in Feb. Has anyone been this time of year and seen them?
Also any apartment recommendations and recommended tour companies? TIA

It's during Northern lights season so there is a chance you will see them. I went in march/april right at the end of the season and seen them. My sister went in January and didn't.
It's just down to luck

As above, February is the right time of year to see the lights, but there are no guarantees. We went at the end of March, but there was too much cloud cover at night when we were there so we didn’t see them. I know of two people that went in February last year, one got to see them at the second attempt, the other didn’t get to see them at all.

My son has just come back and saw them. We saw them when we went in November. Just down to luck and a good tour guide who knows where to go. Also, check the lunar calendar as a dark night is best, rather than a full moon.

You need three things for Northern Lights:
A clear sky A dark sky A high level of solar activity It’s the solar activity that leads to the lights. I would recommend going on a small group tour, not the big bus. It’s more expensive but worth it. Edited at 09:08 PM. |

We used Solstice Tours for both the Northern Lights and the Golden Circle the following day. Small group, lovely van, went some places the big bus tours can't go and he was ace at finding the Northern Lights on a night when others cancelled. He also took loads of photos and emailed them to us afterwards. Phone photos don't do the lights justice. Couldn't fault him.
We did the Blue Lagoon ourselves on the bus.

We went last year in February and saw them but the tour the night before and for the two nights after were actually cancelled. They seem to cancel them if there’s no chance of activity. We loved our trip there but we didn’t tour around the whole island, we did the Golden Circle tour, Blue Lagoon and stayed in Reykjavik.
