Dog with IBD Pancreatitis and allergies and reflux

I have a five year old dog with all the above conditions from 9 months old. She is on steroids, omozeprozole and cerena for sickness. She has been on Purina HA for a year but she is beginning not to want it anymore and I’m at my wits end, has anyone else got a dog with these conditions and what do you feed them. She can’t eat raw and does not like any wet food. She also has to have very low fat. She is highly allergic to chicken. I have tried home cooking but due to my health conditions, this did not work out. I hope someone may be able to help me. Thank You.

I think you need to speak to a canine nutritionist. Maybe ask on your local Facebook page? We have one local to us and she works with lots of owners whose pets have complex dietary and/or medical needs.

Have you looked into raw feeding? It sorted our dogs GI issues and bad skin out in weeks, never looked back

The OP says her dog can’t eat raw, I assume it’s because it has too high a fat content. For pancreatitis you need a diet at under 5% fat.

That said, there are some low fat raw diets which could be worth looking into. I found this one with a Google search which is 5% fat and doesn’t contain chicken or turkey - paleoridgeraw.uk/natural-dog...-lamb-and-mint.

Edited to add - found another one with Bella and Duke - bellaandduke/raw-foo...-working-dogs/. I’ve dealt with them before and they can supply one flavour rather than mixed boxes, if you contact them.

Thanks for all your help, but my vet has advised me against raw, I’m trying to find another low fat diet for her, before I care in and put her on another prescribed food.

What was your vet’s rationale? I’m sorry to say that many vets are very ill-informed when it comes to raw feeding. Many vets are also anxious to push the expensive prescription foods which they stock, especially in the current climate. Almost every time one of our dogs goes to the vet (not very often) they try and convince us we need their magical food.

I’d honestly suggest you talk to a canine nutritionist. This is the lady near us - manxcanine/ - if you can’t find someone near you, I’m sure you could email or call and she would try and help. She’s always offering advice on our local pets page, free of charge.
