Mobile Virgin pre booked seats

Hi just a heads up, we pre booked our seats with virgin when they came live earlier in the year, we came to print our boarding passes last night and all our pre booked seats had vanished and a banner across the screen said 'pre book your seats £25 each' and our allocated seats (there are 7 of us) were dotted about all over the plane! Apparantly if booked before March you now need to pay to prebook seats...even if you booked your seats before then! Last minute very stressful phone call to virgin and thankfully we are all now sat closer together but not our original seats!

We usually fly with virgin although we used TC last year so not flown with virgin since 2017. To pre book seats we have paid £25 + (depending on seat) to ensure we are sat together. We have done this for a good few years.
Has this changed now? I did not think you could pre book seats for free unless are booked PE etc

Passengers who booked before 18th March 2018 still have to pay. This still effects a small number of people who booked via a TA or VH.

All seating is now free to book from 331 days before the scheduled departure of the aircraft. The exceptions to this are passengers booked in economy light, exit rows and the upper deck on the 747.

Did you book before March 2018? Like other poster mentioned I wonder if this was due to booking before March 2018 when the seat booking wasn't free and then the system only just working out you should have paid? Did you check your seats between booking them and departure?

We booked in November for our flight next month. Seat booking was free with economy delight. As above, it's only chargeable with economy light. Just checked and ours are all still booked

Edited at 09:36 AM. Reason: Added more

I believe that as seats were chargeable at the time when you booked then this still applies.
