Under 25 Car Insurance?
Hi DD1 is looking at booking a trip with her boyfriend but both are only 21. She is considering hiring a car but is it much more expensive for the insurance than it is for over 25’s ? Thanks in advance

Have a look at US car hire on the quote page under hire type there is a young person option which includes upto 3 drivers aged 21 My lad used them and had no issues. Alamo seems to come up the cheapest on a random search, around £500 for 2 weeks.

We found Sixt the best for car hire when DH was under 25, the fee was much more reasonable than others.

Sixt used to cap the young drivers fee at $99 however unfortunately they removed this some time ago.

Some companies will only allow 1 young driver on the policy. Alamo will allow up to 3 young drivers.

Try enquiring with Car on the Drive - I know they can be a bit dearer but I’m pretty sure that includes younger drivers

Just to second uscarhire.com have always been cheapest for our group with drivers under 25 however we are a group with multiple drivers so their young drivers has always been so much cheaper.
As always many groups are different so check all vendors. Enjoy.

DFCH gives good advice with Alamo allowing 3 drivers under 25. AVIS allow drivers under 25 but not for additional drivers so with AVIS you can only have one under 25 and they need to be the lead driver for that to happen.
Over the years have used usrentacar uscarhire and more lately Andy at DFCH for under 25 drivers. If you do not pre-pay for young drivers most will charge at least $14.99 per day plus taxes etc so make sure which ever one you go with has included the underage driver charges before you go. Make sure it is not a pay locally option. Some do not allow you to have it in advance and as said it it costs a lot more on arrival . Also as mentioned Car on the Drive (COTD) is another option as they allow under 25 drivers in their rate (or at least they used to always worth checking). Edited at 12:47 AM. |
