what we have done the last few years is get free dining and then upgraded to deluxe plan -I hate quick service for tea (I like a menu and having my food brought to me with a nice glass of wine or cocktail) and part of my holiday experience is going out in the evening and having a meal. We also love character breakfasts and we do the dinner shows too. With free dining last year we paid (just me and 10 year old daughter) about an extra 30 quid a day for us both for the upgrade. That for us was worth it. It wasn't too much food as the meals in the signatures are smaller portions of yum..but that's what works for us. I appreciate that everyone has different requirements on holiday... we do 3 weeks so have the time to go for nice meals every night. I am probably in the minority though!

If you do decide to upgrade, don't forget to factor in the cost of tips too. If you budget $30 per meal, thats around another $630 to pay on top of the upgrade costs, potentially more now that alcoholic drinks are included (bumping up the bill) and depending on what meals you choose.

Where are you staying? Does the food court give you a good variety of meals that you'd enjoy eating?

We did DDP last year and are going for QSDP in 2019. I think we'll pay for Teppan Edo and maybe go offsite for pizza one night and steak another.

There are pros and cons to each option. With DDP you get the flexibility of a decent quality meal each day where you can order what you want, but you have to have your ADRs planned. Plus the tips.

With QSDP you have total flexbility over when you eat but you won't sit down with a plate and cutlery.

IMO, look at the menus of the TS places as a family. If there are more than 5 that you all have to eat at then upgrade. If less, then budget in advance and pay for them OOP (using Landry card if T Rex, Rainforest or Yak and Yeti are on your list).

I would definitely upgrade QSDP to DDP for us (travelling as a couple). However not sure whether I would if I was watching costs and with a family the QSDP might be very suitable.

Hi Dibbers,
Thank you so much for everyones input you all make great points for QSDP and DDP and now I am even more confused lol... Great food report Vicki the QSDP looks to offer great tasty food. Hopefully I have time to decide ...If I added it and felt I couldn't afford it at a later date can I just take it off my booking or would you leave it off and only add it when I have decided.
Many Thanks

You could add it then remove it but would pay an admin fee so I’d leave it until you know for sure.

For our family it worked out better for us to upgrade. It cost just over £600 for 4 of us for 10 nights.

It's our first time and I've let the kids lead the way in where they want to eat. We've got 5 character meals, 1 signature and a couple of other adr's booked so it was worth doing. If we were paying OOP we still would have let the kids pick 1 each so it would have been over $400. I'm happy with the decision we've made but everyones circumstances will be different.

When considering our options the pros were not having to worry about the cost of our oop meals and having to say no to the kids. I also like the idea of a proper sit down meal once in a while. The cons were having to book adr's and tips.

I would love AKL... however there isn't any availability for anything at the minute... still waiting to find if I have secured a POR reservation... not really sure why the availability is so limited.
Thanks for advice
