We had a similar problem during lockdown with an HP cartridge - hate to shop there usually but Argos came up with the goods when Amazon were sold out. Still paid too much for it IMO, but had no choice at the time.
Agree with your OP - they really are becoming more difficult to find than toilet roll at the start of all of this

Not going to solve your current problem, but we got an Epson EcoTank printer, and it is fantastic... especially the cost of the ink.
We got the basic model, and it prints fine. Photos are ok, not brilliant.

Perhaps it might be time to do what we did a few years back and in the face of our boys increased usage for schoolwork. We bought an Epson Ecotank. It is one of the best gadgets that we have ever purchased and has saved us a fortune.
The ink hoppers hold loads, apparently 88 times as much as a traditional ink cartridge and of course, with no electronics to pay for In the cartridge as it doesn’t have any. The ink is extremely cheap at around £35 to fill the lot With Epson ink and in any case, all we have had to purchase thus far is black on one occasion. I guess we have had this printer for around 4 years and when it eventually gives up we will simply buy another one. Whilst ours was around £270, we have had absolutely fantastic value and heavy use. They are much cheaper now. It is a wonderful feeling when you don’t even have to think of cost when deciding what to print and what not to. This one is £213 in Curry’s and the details not in any way exaggerating the economy in use... FROM CURRYS WEBSITE. Say goodbye to messy cartridges Go cartridge-free with the Epson EcoTank ET-2720 All-in-One Wireless Inkjet Printer and save up to 90% next time you print out some work documents. Print up to 4,500 monochrome pages and up to 7,500 colour pages with the included ink. And since each ink tank is equivalent of 88 cartridges, you'll spend less time refilling and more time printing. 3-in-1 convenience There's no need for separate devices to clog up your office. With the Epson EcoTank ET-2720 All-in-One Printer, you have everything you need in machine. The 3.7 cm LCD screen is easy to use, so print your essay, copy that contract and scan your drawings hassle-free. Print from your phone You don't have to be tied down your computer to print. With wireless printing, you can print from your mobile, tablet or laptop, as long as you're on the same WiFi network.

We did our last ink order Staples on line which was the cheapest for large size HP ink (DH is going through it like it is going out of fashion) and it arrived in a couple of days, previous one was click and collect from Argos at Sainsbury’s but second time wait was almost a week for click and collect.

Yes that was one of the reasons we bought into the HP Instant Ink thing... I have always got spare cartridges ready to go as they are sent out automatically when the algorithms notice my ink level is moving downward. I really can't recommend it more highly.
But the main reason was cost, I spend about £42 a year on the HP service but cost per year of replacing my cartridges was at least 3 times that |
