Question CBT for chronic pain?

anyone ever tried CBt for chronic pain or even any other issue?

I have fibromyaliga and have also been suffering with additional pain due to injury which isn't really responding to medication so have been referred for CBT
I had the initial assessment and have been put on the waiting list for an available therapist so wondered if anyone else had tried it /had experience of it and what I could expect?

I know it varies depending on your circumstances and issues but any info would be much appreciated.

A few years ago I had CBT for trichotillamania. She was really lovely and really helpful but unfortunately it did not help me long term. She did say I was unusual because I understood why I did what I did, my triggers and causes etc. I’m not sure though that if at the time I tried hard enough to implement the changes needed and that I expected it to be a magic cure without having to put in the effort. I’ve recently thought about asking for another referral but not sure if I’ve used “my chance” already. I’d say give it a go, it can be extremely successful for some people and conditions and if you openly accept and work with them I’m sure it can work for you.

Yes, I have been through the mill... cbt and pain management alongside mindfulness training. It has helped a bit and I can persuade myself things are not AS painful as they were, but only up to a point. Sometimes the pain wins.

May I ask what mindfulness training is?

it is training you to live in the moment, to be aware of your body and it calms you, makes you less anxious. Mine used a bit of meditation, a bit of talking therapy, a bit of reading, it was useful. There are many online resources available.

I have
I’ve got fibro and Lupus
It’s all about living in the moment knowing your limits and accepting life will not be the same but living as full as you can
I have to say it will only work if all your family are on board you accept that that’s it for today ( ie I now use a wheel chair or evc when I need to on long days out )
But to be honest it’s
Flipping useless when for some reason a fibro muscle spasm appe
As from nowherer and you are stuck or you can not get comfortable in bed or your Hans and feet are on fire and you have a hot water bottle filled with ice by the bed just to cool them down
Sorry to be a dolly downer but don’t expect it to get your life anywhere back to what it was before fibro it’s just a fancy name for coping in my opinion
Others may have found it amazing I’d never say knock something till you have tried it
Yes my muscle spasm have seen me sat on the floor for hours I can’t get up but when I started to clean this cupboard under the sink I was fine 2 hours the other day till DH came back in to hoi me up I couldn’t even shuffle to a dinning chair to ease me up cause I’d foolishly got right down on my knees and not used my little old lady gardening stool thing that has raised hand grips that I can use to get up

Hi, I am currently in the middle of cbt for fibro and other various conditions. I was diagnosed a year ago with fibro and still trying to get my head around it tbh. It takes a while to sink in and admit that things will never be how they were before, also learn to pace yourself. I'm starting to accept it but just seem to be hit with illness after illness. I have now decided to give up work and take life a bit slowly. 🙏

I struggled on with fibro and Lupus for a year working for someone else then worked for myself for 5 best decision I made but/we’ve been fully retired very very early I’ll add for 3 years so we can live life as full as we can as a couple as grandparents etc
DH at times feels guilty when I’m having a real bad flair /day but I just want him to get the hell out of my way leave me a bottle of water uncapped a thermal mug for tea
Sandwiches open a packet of crisps for lunch and let the dogs out and ****** off for a couple of hours as I can’t even stand the tv on him trying to be helpful
I very much go in to just leave me alone with a the dogs please
You need to establish a in our case itsca look from me and they all back off or a word or phrase
Oh and expect days that you just want to kill all of them indoors cause you felt great the last 3 days cleaned and tidied everything they don’t see you go for a shower do your hair make up think you are coming back into the perfectly tidy clean organised
House and in that 30 mins to an hour all hell has been let loose I’d one of those moments on Sunday when I’d done all the things like clean out the shower plug holes basins and sinks cleaned out he dishwasher/ washing machine the oven and hob
To utter mayhem DH cleaning his golf clubs shoes In the mud room good job my hands and shoulder were grouping or he’d have had a 5 iron round his ears right there and then
