Ideas for a special landmark holiday

So next year is a big year in our household with two milestone birthdays plus our tenth wedding anniversary. We therefore want to plan a special holiday as part of that. This will be for myself, my husband and our (then) eight year old son. We're just going around in circles with ideas and so wanted some thoughts from other people.

We had initially thought about returning to Kenya and/or Tanzania (we went on Safari for our honeymoon) but not 100% sure about doing this with our son (we went for proper luxury before! ) It would also potentially be nice to do somewhere that is new for us all, but being fairly well travelled that doesn't give huge numbers of options.

We're somewhat limited on dates in that we need to stick with school holidays as much as possible. Realistically will be 2-3 weeks either from the very end of March, or anytime from second week in July until end of August. Florida is off the cards (going in October) as are Japan, New York, San Francisco and a couple of other places we've done recently. We'd like a bit of luxury (as marking special occasions) but needs to be suitable for a child too. We're confident, independent travellers.

We'd quite like to do a cruise but struggling to find an itinerary which fits with our dates and excites us.

Anyone got any inspiration for us?!

My starter for 10! Fly to Cape Town and spend 3/4 days there. Rent a car and drive the Garden Route (8/9 days) across to Port Elizabeth and do a 2/3 day safari in a private game reserve. Fly back to Cape Town and pick up the MSC five day cruise to Namibia (r/t Cape Town from £389pp) departing 5 April. Fly home.
You can work around the cruise depending on your dates.

Canada - fly to Calgary then drive through the Rockies stopping at Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper. Can do white water rafting, Athabascan glacier walk, canoeing on Lake Louise. Over to Vancouver then Victoria (whale watching). Could add a cruise up into Alaska depending on timing.

Quite like this idea, thanks. Have you cruised with MSC? Are they any good, particularly for kids?

I've done pretty much exactly this trip already - albeit quite some time ago. It was fantastic, and my husband hasn't been to Canada at all, but think I'd rather we try to do something that's a bit different for both of us (most things are still new for our son!)

Could be a possibility. Not really thought about Hawaii previously so will have to look in to this one!

We’ve done lots of cruises but not MSC yet - we have one booked with them in November from Genoa to Rio. We’ve spent a lot of time in South Africa (most recently in February this year) let me know if you want any recommendations.
