Is it time for the law to be blind

So today a 40 year old woman died when a 80 year old woman lost control of her car and hit her in front of specksavers. If she was 18 and had just passed her test she could expect a prison sentence. Just because she is 80 she should still go to prison.

There's a differance between dangerous driving and an accident.

Agree - we are very slow to revoke driving licenses etc when people are older and less safe on the roads. An older lady shunted into a man in a local town when parking the other day and he’s lost a leg. People need to be more honest about their capabilities x

I think I am right in saying that California has the highest number of elderly drivers in America and thus the highest number of fatalities caused in the main by said drivers mixing up their pedals.

As a society we tread a thin line between being overly draconian and banning the elderly and on the other hand taking a more pragmatic approach to the issue.

I don't know what the answer is but a car can be a lonely persons only way to enjoy the outside world.

Most of these cases although tragic are just accidents and not done with any degree of recklessness although in some cases they know they have medical issues and still drive thus becoming reckless per se. That however doesn't lead to a death by dangerous conviction.

Going to get worse with an ever ageing population. Not sure how to mitigate this.

If I hit the wrong pedal, put it in the wrong gear and this causes the death of someone it’s not a accident at best it’s careless at worst dangerous they both carry prison sentences.

What happened to compassion and finding out the details of what happened before jumping to conclusions?

Unless of course you were there, witnessed the whole thing, have done extensive investigations following your years of training into how to investigate these types of incidents and have full knowledge of the drivers medical history...

My argument is they should treat a 18 year old the same as a 80 year old. They shouldn’t be spared jail just because they are old.
