Holidays and teens

We came back a couple of weeks ago from the Dominican Republic. We made great memories and had a lovely time. However towards to end of the second week our teenagers 16 and 13 were bored, and chose to spend 3/4 days in the room with wifi.
Now me and dh wanted to do the west coast but the kids begged for a beach holiday...
My kids are not spoilt but holidaying is the norm for them and they have known no difference.
Well starting to look for next year and the 16 year old who will be nearly 18 next year is saying thanks but no thanks i am staying at home. Fine no probs but the 13 year old 15 when we go next year is saying if his brother isn’t going then neither is he.
Well obviously if he doesn’t go we can’t go. Grandparents are in their late 70’s so not sure thats an option but dragging a sulky teenager on holiday if not my idea of a holiday either.
Anyone any advice?

We left our 17 and 15 year old but my mum went in every day to make sure they had dinner and were ok. They are both sensible and responsible. Everything was fine and we had a great time on our own. Much better than dragging them with us.

Maybe choose an activity based holiday that both teens would enjoy. I think 2 full weeks on a beach in the Dominican Republic is too much for me too, we went a long time ago pre children and I don’t think my children would enjoy it there.
Leave the eldest at home and take a friend for the younger one. This is what we will probably do.
Son stayed at home from 16, we have no family to keep an eye so wouldn’t have left him before that. He is 21 now but still comes on big holidays

Leave them home together ?

I left mine last year twice , once for 3 weeks , then for 12 days . They were 19 & 15 at the time

They were both perfectly fine , eldest did the cooking , both got off to work / school etc and the house was left standing .

I stayed at home with my sister when I was 18 and she was 15, might even have been 17 and 14. We loved being at home, parents gave us money to go and do our own supermarket shop which was a novelty for us. If your are sensible maybe that an option, otherwise, as somebody else suggested let the younger one bring a friend.

You know your children best if you think the older one is responsible. I would tell both of them if they behave and their are no issues, they will get £50 each on your return. Your parents are around if they did need help or advice.

If your parents are on stand by I think they would be ok to be left. I.totally get the teens being bored and resorting to their phones, it's hard. ! Hope you can feel ok about it and enjoy your holiday xx

We so far we have booked a cheap holiday in june for a week and only the young one is coming, for what we have paid if he spends all day in his room on the wifi i will be ok with it. (Obviously i would prefer him to be outside in the pool etc)
Our 2 week summer holiday (not booked yet) i have so far convinced oldest to come too. We are hoping to get a last minute holiday to spain or somewhere in a villa with friends. Then maybe me and dh can get away either late next year or early 2021. When oldest is 18 i will definitely feel more comfortable leaving them.
So hard as the kids get older definitely prefer it when they are 5 or 6 and just do what we want lol
