Passport help!

Hey guys,

So we fly 3 weeks tomorrow to florida, today I was getting bits sorted with COVID passes etc. Went to get the passports from our safe place and my partners passport has slight water damage going into the left hand side of the photo and slightly onto his face! I have tried to get through to the passport office today for some advise to possibly try and/or get an appointment to replace it but I am waiting for a call back as couldn’t get through. Anyone got any experience with this or advise would be helpful. For all we know it could have been there when we last travelled 🤦🏼

My only advice is if they ask you send it back don’t, this can take weeks to get back. I would book a day for the same day passport service, this will cost extra but not worth the stress it will cause waiting for a passport to arrive.

Thank you. Yes I will definitely do same day or 1 week fast track like they offer online. Passport is due to expire next June anyway! It may not need replacing but I don’t want to risk it. Information isn’t that easy online so hopefully I can just call my nearest passport office tomorrow

Has the page started to turn a hint of blue or other colour change. Frankly any biodata page damage I would advise a change especially if over photo.

Some British passports when wet the photo starts to disappear and page turns a blue tint.

Yes it has turned blue but only starting to cover the left hand side of face. I’m going to try and get hold of passport office now. Such a pain applied for estas only 2 weeks ago so will have to do another one for him 🤦🏼

The truth is if it's not to bad then it would probably be fine but you will worry and for such an important document is it worth the risk.

Try and get an appointment to resolve and then redo esta, if for no other reason than peace of mind.

Well I am amazed!

I finally got through to the passport office and after lengthy explaining of the photo damage - green covering his left ear, he said that it is a security feature and a ‘teardrop test’ & that he has the same on his passport. This would make sense because the only damage is on the actual photo and not on anything else around the photo or any other pages. You can still see all the holographic over the photo perfectly and the blurred picture on the other page you can see his whole face. I have never heard of this before and he said as long as you can see that it is him then the passport will be fine.

The question should be will the US immigration or even BA will accept it. We where told to refuse travel if there is any damage to the picture or other information on the bio page.

I know what your saying and that’s what I thought and was worrying about prior to calling the passport office but then he said that it sounds like it has been done for security anyway and is something called a ‘teardrop test’ which would make sense because nothing else is damaged
