HOW have you upgraded to UC ?
We are booked in premium for December me and hubby just looked now and it would be £1000.00 each both journeys so an extra 2000 pound on top of what we paid so all in all would cost in total UC return £3600….do you think that’s a good price it has come down in price since yesterday do you think it could come down again , done a dummy run and at the moment lots seats left ….also do you go on your booking everyday to see the cost of an upgrade or is there an easier way to do it …..also last question …. I have around 40 thousand points on my virgin credit card ( not many ) could I use those towards it and if so how do I do that ..thanks everyone x

I think your getting no replies as the answer is no-one really knows, I suspect if there is plenty of UC availability much nearer your dates that is when it’s likely to be cheaper, but as with most things it’s going to be a gamble

I have never booked as an upgrade, but I would consider £1800 to be a reasonable UC return price, certainly possible to do better but times when it would cost more too. This is based on years of checking both BA and Virgin club / upper prices. The only time I have flown Virgin Upper was September 2019 (I normally fly BA) and it cost just over £2k.

Do you think you might have an upgrade voucher on your credit card at all? We upgraded from premium to upper using our vouchers as we had spent over 10k in a year. I think if you are upgrading with points though, you'll need there to be upper class rewards available for your flight date in December.

When we booked PE with Virgin back in June this year, (holiday June 2022) We asked for the price at the time for the UC seats and it was almost double the PE price. I enquired with the agent we booked with in August and got a price just under £1k pp (return).
I too keep an eye on the booking, mainly due to the impeding plane change (I want my seats!) So I can see PE is now sold out, I've just asked for the price now as UC seems empty. |

You could always use the bid for an Upgrade system Virgin use, you will find the option in Manage my Booking, you simply bid what you want to pay, I think it starts at around £400, if you are successful you will get an email a few days before you are due to fly to let you know, if your not successful you keep your original seats and pay nothing.

I agree that £1700/1800 is the figure I aim for for UC flights, happy to get them at under £2k per person.
We flew home last night from Barbados, we'd booked PE through Virgin Holidays and bid for the UC upgrade which we were successful for - minimum was £435pp, we'd bid £445 each outbound and £455 inbound so £1800 return for a similar length flight to give you an idea. When I'd priced it up prior to the holiday it fluctuated from £5.5-7K for the 2 of us return, so worth bidding but obviously a risk that if the plane's busy you may not get it.

If you do a bid online can you retract it ...Was thinking if it did come up on an offer I could purchase it but would need to know i can retract the Bid ;

Yes you can, but if you leave it until the 2 days before and it's successful then the money is automatically taken, so you need to cancel it well in advance of that.
