Sorry I know you are asking specifically about Virgin but we have to fly to SFO regularly (my husband works out there so he travels the route about once every 5 weeks and we go for the school holidays). BA are usually much cheaper than Virgin so if you Avios it may be worth checking them out. We got some amazing flights with BA in their Jan sale this year (think the cheapest was £98 outbound for flights we should have been taking in April). We always try to book the A380 as more availability to upgrade. We sometimes fly to San Jose depending on price and you can fly to Honolulu from there I'm sure.

This is really helpful, thank you for your reply!

I think we might look at BA for SFO as you suggest, and use miles and free companion ticket for travel to MCO (if available) with virgin.
