Lake District recommendations
Hi all,
Myself, husband and 15 month old son are going to The highlands in Scotland for a week in October. On the way back we’d like to stay in the Lake District for 2 nights to break up the journey home. Does anyone have any recommendations on a nice area to stay? We would probably air bnb but would consider a hotel too. Ideally close to some attractions (recommendations welcome here too!) that are suitable for children. We don’t want to venture too far out to the west so we remain close to the m6 for continuing our onward journey. Thanks! |

Ambleside/Grasmere area - loads to do & lots of accommodation -- and the opportunity to buy Grasmere gingerbread! 😊

Grasmere is the prettiest village for me, don’t like Ambleside,Windermere, Bowness, far to many day trippers.
Depends what you looking for and your preferences. Lovely coffee shops in Grasmere ( especially Baldrys), the gingerbread shop, Wordsworths family graves, plus a lovely lake to walk around. For us it’s about the walking, but your needs may be different. Plenty of places to stay, from small hotels to cottages |

I don’t think you can go wrong anywhere in the Lakes. Windermere can be busy but your little one may like the Beatrix Potter attraction, a cruise on the lake, Brockhole visitor centre.. Kendal is a nice market town and only just off the motorway. Further west is South Lakes Wildlife Safari which we have always enjoyed.

Thanks! Will check out these suggestions. Pre children we loved stately home and castles but happy to cater to his needs now (plus I’m aware these are not al fully open). We don’t mind a walk but would need to consider the pram.
Grasmere sounds lovely - I do like a bit of gingerbread! |

Southern end of Lake Windermere. The Lakes Aquarium is good for little ones, along with the Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway and the Lake Steamers. Only 20 minutes from M6.

We currently at Pooley bridge which is not far from the M6 and it’s a nice little place to spend a few days. Top of Ullswater with plenty of pubs and restaurants and walks to chose from
We are off to Bassenthwaite tomorrow but that’s prob a bit far from the motorway |
