Hertz do big deals with Ford and Nissan so you get an Armada or Expedition if you actually get a genuine full size. If you strike it lucky you might get a Lincoln Navigator which is the posh version of the Ford Expedition. Or even an Infiniti QX80 which is a posh Armada

Alamo do most of their business with General Motors so if you get a genuine full size SUV, you should expect a Tahoe, Yukon or a lucky upgrade to a Chevy Escalade which is the Tahoe/Yukon wearing a Saville Row suit

Standard SUVs have been typically Nissan PantsFinders, Chevy Traverses, GMC Acadias, Ford Explorers, Hyundai Santa Fes, Jeep Grand Cherokees, Kia Sorrentos, etc - though some of these are actually officially full size Crossovers but are re christened SUVs by the hire companies

Real US Full Size SUVs are based on their sibling Pick-Up Truck ranges and come with a full passenger body mounted on top of the truck frame instead of a double cab with a flat-bed, tarpaulin covered, cargo area

Ford, Lincoln, Chevy, GMC and Cadillac also do extended length version of their real full size SUVs which are best suited to customers who have a need for all 7/8 seats and plenty luggage space. They are about 20 inches longer than the smaller version's which themselves are away larger than the BMW X5, Mercedes GLS, Volvo XC90, Audi Q7 that we are used to on this side of the pond

Have a good long look at the stickies at the top of this transportation forum for more detail and some helpful videos contributed by dedicated dibbers.

But be aware that pretty much all the major car hire companies are getting more notorious/adept at parting you from your money under false pretences by allocating you with a smaller car than what should be in the class you believe you have hired from
