Sixt car hire in Germany

So my stepdaughter has taken our son her half brother to Germany as a treat to stay in the V8 hotel and go to all the car museums. He is autistic and a car fanatic.
They flew this afternoon after a 2hr delay.
My daughter had booked a BMW with Sixt and paid with her debit card in advance. On arriving at the desk they told her she couldn't have the car unless she gave a credit card which neither of them have. Much rangling back and forth and she asked why it had let her pay with a debit card if they don't accept them. Anyway there was no swaying with them even though by this point my son was having a complete anxiety meltdown. Whilst I appreciate she may have made a mistake they did absolutely nothing to help. In fact they literally shouted and screamed at her to the point she was in tears too, and she isn't an emotional person. What gives employees the right to behave like that? Where's the compassion?

Do you think there's any chance at all of getting their money back? I am fuming at the way they've been treated. My son is an absolute wreck!

There is a very long series of posts dated from 2010 to 2016 regarding rental problems with Sixt on Trip Advisor in the Germany forum. If you look it up you will also see there is a Sixt employee based in the UK customers services, by the name of GaryCoughlan, who does appear to be helping to resolve some of these problems.

Might be worth looking it up ?
