start by trying to book the ROL package, if one is available, then it will state that you already have a booking at this time and do you want to cancel it - you can't have both. that way if an ROL package is not available you have not cancelled the adr you already have

I did exactly this yesterday. I had an 8.00am tusker house reservation. Rang disney to see if they could swap it to the dining package and they couldn't. I really didn't want to lose my 8.00am time. I booked it for a different day instead for a late breakfast but it really messed with my plans and I wasn't happy with it so last night cancelled my 8.00am reservation and went straight to the ROL dining package reservations and managed to get it back straight away. So yes it is possible but just have to hope no one else is checking it at the same time as you and manages to nab it first.

On the day we going to ROL it says park closes at 7pm, but the shows are much later, how does this work? 🤔

The park hours will change. Our date said 7pm but once ROL times were announced it changed.
