Car Hire - One Way Drop Off Fees

I'm sure this subject has been discussed in the past, but my limited searching has not uncovered it so I'm looking for help.
For next year's holiday, we are considering having a few days in Boston then taking a slow drive to Orlando for a relaxing villa stay, before flying back to UK from there. However, I'm encountering some horrendous one way drop off fees for car hire. Can anyone steer me to a company with no drop off fees (unlikely!) or at least one that won't charge me an arm and a leg? Thanks guys.

Mmm. Sad to say you are going to struggle and get stung. I may be wrong but I dont think there are that many that do cheap one way rentals for that distance and number of States.

I just did a 8 day dummy booking with Virgin, pick up at Logan and drop off at MCO. Cars are cheap but they want a $500 pay at desk fee for the 1 way drop off.

Hi we payed $99 , picked up from NYC one of the streets, i can't remember and then dropped off at airport.
Our booking for next year, pick up at san fran airport and drop off at Las vegas airport and do not have to pay any fees. however if we were to pick up from downtown san fran instead of airport it would have been $399, doesn't make sense.

I asume you mean an airport in New York? There wouldn't be a fee for that.
If you mean drop off at Orlando that was an awesome deal.

With regard to California, Nevada and Arizona very few companies charge one way fees as there is so much movement back and fore so it's easy to get the cars back 'home'

Thanks Mr Tom , it was airport in NYC , looks like i was ripped off then haha.
Just goes to show you doesn't it. Our booking agent said if we pick up car in san fran (not the airport) it would incur the fee Hmmm . must do more research next time...

It was through uscarhire.com but company was Alamo . But as you will see in my reply to Mr Tom, looks like i shouldn't of paid anything.

I think they had you over in NY. I have just done a dummy booking picking up in Manhattan and dropping at JFK. No 1 way fee. However I didn't check Newark. Now there may be for that as it's in NJ not NY State.
