Urgent help needed for flight tomorrow
Hi - urgent request for advice.
Leaving tomorrow from Newcastle to Heathrow arriving 7:25am with checked bags. However this is not a connecting flight so i will have to get the cases from the terminal. I then need to get to T2 from T5 for bag drop (online check in complete) and have around 1.5hrs for this. How do i do it?

If you go on Heathrow's website there are instructions on how to transfer - I've only done 3 to 5 so can't be more helpful

Terminal 5 Heathrow Express trains are free for travel between Heathrow Central station (Terminals 2 & 3) and Terminal 5. There's a train every 15 minutes.Average journey time: 20 minutes

Firstly the track record of the newcastle flight looks ok.. uk.flightaware/live/flight/BAW1321
The concern for me would be 90 minutes on a non connecting ticket. You will need to wait upto 30 minutes for your luggage off the Newcastle flight (could be quicker) . Then you only really have 40 mins max to transfer to T5, then to go through security and walk to the gate... all before it closes.. Can you confirm your T5 outbound flight departure time ?

10:05am and i think i might have dropped a fat one here tbh. I dont think its possible as i will have to clear passport control as a family, collect bags, get shuttle, bag drop, clear security get to the gate in 1.5hrs.
Options? I think losing my internal flight (i used airmiles anyway) and drive 6hrs to be sure

Wheres the flight to at 10:05 ? looking on the live T5 departure board there's no USA flight at 10:05 detailed... theres flights at 9:55 to Houston , 09:50 LA, Washington or 9:40 to New York from what i can see.. could you confirm? ALso, remember the quoted transfer times are for Airside and you will be landside not on a connecting ticket... you run the risk of your flight bag drop also been closed a good 40 mins before the flight departure time and you will need to be at the gate with a good 20 mins to spare for boarding. If it was me, (based on the above correct) i would be checking into a hotel within 50 miles of the airport and driving down this evening leaving Newcastle area at 6pm ish.

I think it's a MASSIVE risk, they suggest you arrive 3 hours before a long haul flight anyway. You hoping to be off the flight, collect your luggage and transfer terminals before the check in/ bag drop for your long haul flight closes, then get back through airport security and to your gate in 90mins? Without the back up of it being a through ticket!
Personally I'd look to fly/train/drive down tonight! Edited to add: do you land Heathrow at 7:25 and your next flight is at 10:05? So you have 2hrs 40? Still risky in my opinion and I'd probably still drive down, but less risky than 90mins! Edited at 08:52 AM. |

They are transferring from T5 to T2, so I assume they are on the United Newark flight?

Sorry - i misread that part.. From T5 to T2, same position really..
it would be VERY VERY tight.. I think the main risk is not been on a through ticket... if the Newcastle flight is delayed or cancelled, thats all the rest of the trip tickets cancelled if they no show...

I have to agree with others that if it is even possible, it would be extremely tight and I personally wouldn't want the stress of it all. I would travel down tonight, spend the night in a hotel and arrive at the airport rested and relaxed ready to enjoy the holiday.
