Sorry, another random Caribbean question please...
Can anyone recommend a holiday anywhere in the Caribbean where its safe (within reason) to leave the all inclusive resort complex to explore further ? !
We've tried looking in brochures & on line, but you can't beat first hand experience from you fantastic bunch of Dibbers ! |

Barbados.
I've been to a lot of the Caribbean islands and so far I only felt comfortable to wander in Barbados. The people kinda remind me of small village friendliness in the UK, smiling at you and saying Hi.

Barbados! Stunning island and great to hire a little jeep to explore. You can look around the whole of the island in a day. Very friendly, helpful people.

I agree with Barbados.
When we get married there next month I think my family are looking to hire bikes and go exploring. My Nan has been on holiday there with her friends and has always felt safe leaving the resort. |

I agree barbados. You can go out and about on your own.
We also loved Cuba. We had 3 nights in Havana for exploring then 7 nights in Varadero but we couldn't out anywhere around Varadero.

I have owned a home and lived much of the time in the Caribbean for 12 years and sold it last year. I have visited most Caribbean islands frequently.
Honestly most Caribbean countries are safe for visitors but do be careful, there is a definite undercurrent of drug and gun culture on most islands. Most violence is local to local so it is unlikely you will be involved but keep your wits about you. Be careful who you befriend in bars or on the beach, you could get involved in more than you planned. Most people who visit are totally un aware of the undercurrents of crime. Don't leave valuables on the beach unattended. Like in most places do not display your wealth, do not walk in lonely places at night, keep aware but this applies to most places in the world. All the island are pretty much the same as far as crime is concerned but different as far as scenery, topography and personality of the population. Hope this helps |
