Ilfracombe area help

DH and I have booked a cottage with our dog in May. It’s between Ilfracombe and Combe Martin.

We’ve never explored this part of the UK so looking for some recommendations for nice walks and dog friendly beaches and restaurants.

Thanks x

We have friends who live in Ilfracombe and it is a lovely quaint town. In the harbour is the Damien Hirst Mother and Child Statue (which is quite prominent). There are some lovely walks along the cliffs from and and of course the tunnel beaches. Lynton and Lynmouth are also very attractive for walks but like most places on this coast some of the roads are quite hilly and twisty.

I live in North Devon so can offer my opinion on places to go but I am not much good on the walks. The coast all around North Devon is part of the SW Coast Path and can be quite hilly so it depends on how fit you are. You can park at Appledore and walk to Westward Ho! - some of it is on country lanes and can be busy but some of it is across grounds close to the golf course and the beach. Appledore has a nice pub or two and a lovely pizza restaurant. You could go to Braunton for fish and chips in Squires Restaurant - the best place for fish and chip (plus a huge menu) I have ever found. Not sure if you can take a dog into them though, but they do takeaway as well. You could park at Morthoe and walk part of the coast path from there. Or go to Baggy Point (free parking if National Trust members, otherwise pay to park) and there is a good coast path walk from there. Lynmouth to Watersmeet is quite a good walk. Lynton is a nice village to browse around. Wistlandpound reservoir is a nice walk - although there have been some car break ins in the car park if anything of value is left in sight so be careful. It will be quite busy on the roads and the villages in May as well and parking can be a bit hit and miss. Have a good holiday and hope the weather is sunny for you!
