You can test anytime the day before, it’s not limited to 24 hours before the flight.
You don’t need a recovery certificate as well as the test, people use them instead of the test.

We have used Boots, Express Test both on/off airport and our local high st chemist.

All appointments went to plan and I would use any of the above again. The local chemist was most convenient but cost £10 more.
